Famous poet and Chief of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Prasoon Joshi, recently introduced a new book called ‘Do Palkon Ki Chhavn Main,’ Written by Dr Hema Joshi, a respected teacher. Dr Hema Joshi used to teach English Literature at the University of Allahabad.
This book is a bit like a made-up story about Dr Hema Joshi’s own life. In the book, she talks about two cities she loves – Almora, where she was born, and Prayagraj, where she spent a lot of her later years. The story is set against a love story, and it’s about Dr Joshi’s feelings and struggles with these two different places she lives in. One was a romantic and beautiful place where she grew up, and the other was a tougher place where she faced challenges that made her stronger.
During the book launch, Prasoon Joshi, who was the special guest, said, “When you start reading the book, you feel like you are in Dr Joshi’s world. The writing is very interesting, making the book exciting as you go through its pages. The book also tells us about the culture and way of life in our hilly towns like Almora.”
Dr Hema Joshi shared that it took her ten years to write the book. She explained, “I wrote this book because I love two Indian cities a lot – Almora, where I was born, and Prayagraj, where I live now. The book, which has a love story in it, talks about my feelings and struggles with these two worlds.”
Originally from Uttarakhand, Dr Hema Joshi came to Allahabad University for higher studies and became the first woman in the English department to get a DPhil. She taught at the same university for more than 36 years and is still active in academic circles.
Prasoon Joshi praised Dr Hema Joshi’s personality, saying, “This book should have come out earlier. But Dr Hema Joshi is someone who cares a lot about others, and people like that take a long time to write. Her writing is so good that you need to take time to read it. Even though she taught English, she chose to write this book in Hindi. We look forward to reading more of her writings.”
