On Monday, PSG was drawn against Manchester United, setting up a mouth-watering showdown between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, due to a technical error, the draw had to be redone, and while Messi will not yet face Ronaldo. Barcelona’s superstar will face his former club’s Clasico opponents.
Round of 16 in the Champions League
PSG will host Madrid in the first leg in February before traveling to the Santiago Bernabeu in March after finishing second in Group A behind Manchester City, who were given a favorable tie against Sporting CP.
That means Mbappe, a high-profile target for Real Madrid who could have already signed a pre-contract deal with the club by the time these games take place, will face off against his suitors.
United, on the other side, will take on Atletico Madrid, who had been scheduled to face Bayern Munich. Salzburg has been drawn against the Bundesliga giants.
Liverpool’s fortunes may be in jeopardy. Jurgen Klopp’s side had been set to face Salzburg, but now they must prepare for a match against Serie A champions Inter, despite making light work of the Nerazzurri’s rivals Milan in the group round.
Chelsea, who were drawn against Lille in the first round, was paired with the Ligue 1 champions again in the second round.
Villarreal will face Juventus, while Ajax will face Benfica.
