BCCI Announced Test Squad for WI Tour
India’s Test team for their two-match series against the West Indies in the Caribbean has been without Cheteshwar Pujara. Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Mukesh Kumar, three uncapped players, are part of the 16-man team for India’s inaugural World Test Championship match in 2023–25.
The selectors were going to discuss if Pujara’s spot in the team was still tenable. The veteran No. 3 batsman for India, who is now 35 years old, has hit just one century in 52 innings (28 Tests) since 2020, at a mere 29.69 on average.
Pujara has been dropped twice in the past two years, the most recent occurrence occurring in the 2022 home series against Sri Lanka. However, Pujara was back in the India camp for the fifth and final Test against England at Edgbaston and has managed to cling on up until this point thanks to a mountain of runs on the county circuit.
Pujara is already 35 and he is not a great fielder as compared to Virat Kohli. Pujara could now make much difference in the recently concluded WTC Final against Australia where he could only score 14 and 27 in both innings.
What is going to happen in the future with this one of the great Indian batsman? BCCI must give due respect to this stalwart of Indian Test Cricket.
