In a proud moment for India’s sporting ambitions, Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) inaugurated the first-ever International Olympic Research Conference on January 27, 2025. The four-day event, organized by the Indian Olympic Association, is a significant milestone in India’s journey toward bidding for the 2036 Olympics.

The conference began with a special address by Shri (Dr.) Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports. He emphasized India’s unwavering commitment to the Olympic Movement and its plans to establish a strong global presence in sports. “Our grassroots initiatives, like Khelo India and the Khel Mahakumbh, have laid a robust foundation for nurturing young talent and creating a healthy society. BCORE (Bharat Centre of Olympic Research and Education) is central to our Olympic goals,” said Dr. Mandaviya.

Dr. Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), sent a message highlighting the importance of combining sports and education to foster youth development and nation-building.

At the heart of India’s Olympic strategy is BCORE, referred to by Dr. Mandaviya as “Bharat Core.” This initiative plays a crucial role in India’s long-term vision to establish itself as a major Olympic player. With programs like Khelo India inspiring millions and fostering grassroots participation, BCORE is helping bridge the gap between local talent and international platforms.

The conference brought together global experts, including Mr. Lambis Konstantinidis, Executive Director of Planning for the Paris 2024 Olympics, and Dr. Utsav Chaware, Director of BCORE. They shared valuable insights on infrastructure development, sustainable practices, and creating a compelling narrative to secure India’s Olympic bid.

In a high-level panel discussion, experts explored critical topics like financial planning, sustainability, and overcoming challenges posed by rival bidders. “India must focus on creating a legacy of sustainability, strong leadership, and innovation,” said Mr. Konstantinidis. He emphasized the importance of learning from past Olympic hosts to ensure success.

Shri Harsh Sanghavi, Gujarat’s State Minister of Sports, highlighted the state’s record-breaking participation in the Khel Mahakumbh, an initiative that has energized grassroots sports and inspired the youth. He stressed the importance of combining education and sports to prepare India’s next generation for international platforms.

The Vice Chancellor of RRU, Prof. (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel, expressed pride in hosting this historic event. He underlined the transformative role of sports in shaping young minds and driving the nation’s development. Prof. Patel also announced the publication of over 60 research papers that will stem from the conference, marking a significant step toward India’s Olympic aspirations.

The day concluded with a keynote presentation by Mr. Konstantinidis, who outlined a strategic roadmap for India’s Olympic bid. He posed thought-provoking questions to guide India’s planning, such as the legacy India aims to leave behind and the global contribution it can make to the Olympic movement.

The conference continues until January 30, 2025, and promises to set a solid foundation for India’s journey toward hosting the Olympics. By bringing together policymakers, academicians, and global experts, this event marks the beginning of a new chapter in India’s sports history.
