National Coastal Security Conclave Addresses Key Issues and Perspectives

Rashtriya Raksha University, in collaboration with the National Academy of Coastal Policing, organized the “National Coastal Security Conclave – SAMUNDRARAKSHAN 2023″ on December 8th, 2023. The event, hosted by the School of Integrated Coastal and Maritime Security Studies, brought together over 150 armed forces personnel from various branches, emphasizing the significance of coastal security in India.

Defining Coastal Security and its Importance

During the conclave, Prof. (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel highlighted the critical concept of coastal security, describing it as the government’s policy concerning a nation’s access to its territorial sea. The term encompasses efforts to suppress unlawful activities, protect and preserve the marine environment, and prevent and control pollution and security incidents. Prof. Patel shed light on recent developments in coastal security, including government initiatives, regional sea exercises, HADR operations, technological advancements, and policy-making.

 The vision of “Hum Taiyyar Hai” and the Indian Navy’s Role

Vice Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief Guest, and Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command, commended Prof. Patel for organizing the conclave and shared the vision and mission of “Hum Taiyyar Hai” (We are ready). He provided a critical overview of coastal security, highlighting the Indian Navy’s leadership role in collaboration with the Indian Coast Guard, Border Security Force, State Marine Police, and other stakeholders. The Vice Admiral discussed recent HADR operations, such as Operation Kaveri during the Biparjoy cyclone and key policy-oriented initiatives.

 School of Integrated Coastal and Maritime Security Studies Initiatives

Mr. Sushil Goswami, in his address, focused on the initiatives undertaken by the School of Integrated Coastal and Maritime Security Studies. He highlighted the successful implementation of the Gujarat Marine Police Training Model, aiming to extend it to coastal states across India. The school engages in research, education, and training in collaboration with national training agencies like the National Academy of Coastal Policing (NACP) Okha.

Mr. Goswami expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, Vice Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Rear Admiral Anil Jaggi, Flag Officer Commanding Gujarat Naval Area, and Prof. (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel, Vice Chancellor of Rashtriya Raksha University, for their unwavering support and guidance. The collaborative efforts showcased at SAMUNDRARAKSHAN 2023 underscored the commitment to enhancing coastal and maritime security in India.
