28 junior security officers from Vedanta Limited, who are undergoing training in the Basic Course in Corporate Security Management at Rashtriya Raksha University, conducted a community service at Municipal Girls High School in Dahegam, Gujarat. The community service project is an essential part of the course, and the training participants are mandated to organize three community services during the three-month duration of their training. This was the second community service project organized under the guidance of Project Officer Ms. Saumya Dwivedi and the leadership of Mr. Nimesh Dave, Director School of Private Industrial Corporate Security Management (SPICSM). During the community service project, Mr. Dave gave awareness lectures in all classrooms.
Mr. Dave, who spent his younger days in the same town, spoke about how menstruation is a natural phenomenon, and girls should not treat it like a shame or taboo. As the nation is aiming to become a developed country by 2047, this will not be possible without significant participation in jobs by women. As the women are progressing and gaining success in all fields, he encouraged the girls to join security forces as their career opportunity. Mr. Dave also gave a lecture on the selection process and eligibility to become a security officer. He firmly believes that women play an indispensable role in nation-building. Talking to these girls gave him immense satisfaction. He also expressed gratitude to the principal, teaching, and non-teaching staff of Municipal Girls High School for giving them the opportunity to give back to society.
The students were seated in eight classrooms, and all four groups – Prithvi, Akash, Agni, and Vayu – took two classrooms each and gave sensitization on various topics. They conducted live demonstrations of self-defense techniques, shared tips on how to protect oneself if someone attacks, and discussed small things that one can keep with them to protect themselves, such as chili powder/pepper spray and using nails. They also demonstrated how to use sanitary pads and their disposal. Lastly, they elaborated on the career options available for each stream and discussed why all girls should enroll in NCC.
The Municipal Girls High School has more than 500 girls from std. 9 to std. 12 standard, with all three streams – arts, science, and commerce. The community service by the trainees was well-received by the students, who also distributed toffees as a token of appreciation.
Ms. Saumya Dwivedi, who is a Project Officer and Co-ordinator of the course, gave the details of the program and highlighted that “The Basic Course in Corporate Security Management is a comprehensive and customized residential program that provides trainees with rudimentary and pragmatic knowledge of the essence of security and management. The course is designed to escalate from basics to advanced levels and includes daily rigorous physical and classroom training, hands-on training on K9 (a Dog Squad Centre at RRU), and the latest security equipment and techniques. The training participants are divided into groups, and group championships are organized to teach them how to work for the team and develop team spirit. Participants are required to do multiple community services, become compassionate and get exposure to the various sects of society. They are also sent for cultural and recreational visits, and each participant is given an equal opportunity to show their leadership qualities during the course.”
She further stated, ” The training duration is three months, and the participants are graduates with NCC ‘C’ certificates. The first batch of the Course had twenty-four experienced professionals from Vedanta Groups who participated with equal diversity. The first batch started on December 12, 2022, and ended on March 10, 2023. The quality of training was highly appreciated by the top management, subsequent to which Vedanta Limited sent a second batch of 28 trainees for the second batch from May 22, 2023, to August 29, 2023. Out of these candidates, seven are female, and 21 are male. The university looks forward to more private and public corporate houses sending their security officers for training.”
In conclusion, the community service conducted by the Basic Course in Corporate Security Management trainees at Municipal High Girls School was inspirational. It allowed trainees to learn compassion and deal with real people while sensitizing students on topics such as good touch- bad touch menstrual hygiene, self-defense techniques, career guidance, and NCC enrolment benefits. Rashtriya Raksha University’s course curriculum provides trainees with practical knowledge and instills leadership qualities through community services and healthy internal competitions.
