Reliance Foundation Athletes Shine at Asian Games 2022, Winning 12 Medals

Mumbai, October 8, 2023: India had an incredible performance at the Asian Games, securing its best-ever medal count of 107 medals. Among the top performers were athletes supported by the Reliance Foundation, who won 12 medals, contributing significantly to India’s success.
Mrs. Nita Ambani, the Founder and Chairperson of Reliance Foundation, praised Team India for their outstanding achievements. She said, “Congratulations to Team India for making our nation proud with over 100 medals. This shows the incredible potential of our young athletes.”

Mrs. Ambani also celebrated the accomplishments of Reliance Foundation-supported athletes. She said, “We are especially proud of our Reliance Foundation athletes, including Lovlina Borgohain, Kishore Jena, Palak Gulia, and others, who won 12 medals at the Games. We remain committed to nurturing sporting talent.”
Lovlina Borgohain and Kishore Jena Secure Paris Olympics Spots:
- Lovlina Borgohain, a bronze medalist in boxing at the Tokyo Olympics, won a silver medal in the Women’s 75kg category. Her performance earned her a spot at the Paris Olympics in 2024. She became the second Indian female boxer to reach the gold medal bout at the Asian Games.
- Kishore Jena achieved a remarkable javelin throw of 87.54 meters, winning a silver medal. This performance solidified his position as India’s second-best javelin thrower, right after Neeraj Chopra. Notably, Jena improved his personal best seven times in 2023.
Teen Sensation Palak Gulia Makes History:
- Palak Gulia, a young shooting prodigy, made history by winning gold in the women’s 10m air pistol event and securing a silver medal as part of the 10m air pistol women’s team. She became the youngest Indian shooter to medal in this edition and the first Indian woman to win gold in the 10m air pistol individual event.
Reliance Foundation Athletes Shine on the Track:
- India’s 25-year wait for a 10,000m medal in athletics came to an end as Kartik Kumar and Gulveer Singh secured a remarkable 2-3 finish, setting new personal bests.
- Jyothi Yarraji displayed exceptional resilience by winning a silver medal in the Women’s 100m hurdles, overcoming the challenges of a false start claim to secure India’s first-ever medal in this event.
- Mohammad Afsal secured a silver medal in the Men’s 800m, while Jinson Johnson won a bronze in the Men’s 1500m event, becoming the first Indian male athlete to medal in multiple editions of the Asian Games in the 1500m event.

Additionally, Dhruv Kapila in badminton and Simranjeet Kaur in archery made significant contributions to their respective team events. India won its first-ever silver in men’s badminton and secured a bronze in women’s recurve archery. Tushar Shelke was also part of the men’s recurve team that won silver after beating Bangladesh in the semi-finals.
