So, guys, what I never thought would happen has happened, and what I thought… I don’t even know what to say. I’m a bit shocked because, honestly, a movie sets its level, then another movie comes and gets compared to it, and then a third movie comes along and gets compared to the first two. But wait, hold on! I just watched Sky Force in theaters, starring Akshay Kumar and a new entry in Bollywood, Veer Pahariya.
Since it’s Republic Day week, the patriotic vibes are all around. In such a mood, watching an action-packed, emotional, and patriotic film based on a historic event in India is an experience of its own. This movie’s story is based on the 1965 Indo-Pak war, specifically the Indian Air Force’s airstrike on Pakistan’s Sargodha Air Base. It showcases the sacrifices made, the bravery of our Air Force pilots, and the deep emotions tied to that moment in history.
I was especially excited about this movie because it is produced by Maddock Films. Maddock has always impressed us with their unique storytelling, whether it’s Badlapur, Hindi Medium, Stree, Luka Chuppi, Bala, Angrezi Medium, Mimi, Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga, Bhediya, or Stree 2 Munjha. Each movie has been fantastic, and their upcoming project, Chhava, already looks promising from the trailer. Maddock has won the hearts of both audiences and critics.
Sky Force, made under Maddock’s banner, is a two-hour engaging film based on patriotism. The first half sets up the story beautifully, and I won’t lie—it was so engaging that when the interval came, I felt like only 15-20 minutes had passed! Imagine if one hour feels like just 15 minutes—that tells you how captivating the film is. The airstrikes and aerial action scenes are brilliantly executed. Comparing this movie to others would be pointless because the emotions attached to it hit differently.
Now, Akshay Kumar—whenever he appears in uniform, it feels like he was born to wear it. His aura is unmatched. Then there’s Veer Pahariya, the new face in Bollywood. This is the perfect debut for him. Veer held his own alongside Akshay Kumar and presented himself well on screen, especially in two scenes: the rehearsal fight scene (called a dogfight in the film) and the climax where the suspense around his character is revealed. His performance in the ending scene is heartwarming.
The movie also features extended cameos by Nimrat Kaur and Sara Ali Khan. Their roles add depth to the emotional scenes. Even Sharad Kelkar has a strong cameo, and he has done a fantastic job.
Toward the end, the film shows real photos of the pilots involved in the airstrike, along with the iconic song “Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon” by Lata Mangeshkar playing in the background. If you have even a little patriotism in you, this scene will make you feel emotional and proud.
This movie is a tribute to the sacrifices of our Indian Air Force pilots and India’s first airstrike. Finding flaws in such a film would feel like questioning patriotism itself. From the heartfelt presentation to the intense patriotic moments and realistic aerial action scenes, Sky Force easily gets 4 stars from me.
