This is why filmmakers are no longer hesitant to create films on such subjects. Based on this, a film titled “The Diplomat” has been released, showcasing the true power of Indian diplomats, a depth that Indian films have not explored before. Let’s see how this film, based on a true story, has captivated audiences in today’s review.
When an actor steps out of their comfort zone and tries something new, and if it works, it means they are expanding their horizon of acting. John Abraham is typically known as an action hero, and his physique makes his action avatar appealing to viewers. However, he has also acted in films like “Taxi Number 9211,” “Madras Cafe,” “No Smoking,” and Parmanu,” which are different from his usual action roles. These films showcase his acting skills. Similarly, in “The Diplomat,” John Abraham plays a meaningful and serious character beyond action, which is how an actor’s stature is measured.
The Story Line
This film is based on a true story where Ujma Ahmed, played by Sadia Khateeb, falls in love with a man named Tahir and decides to marry him. However, when he takes her to Pakistan, she realizes she has been deceived and is trapped. Ujma tries to escape with the help of the Indian embassy.
The film’s screenplay is tight and gripping, with the second half being more interesting than the first. Once the film gains momentum, it becomes thrilling and tense, concluding in a satisfying climax.
John Abraham plays the role of a Deputy Commissioner at the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, who helps Ujma (Sadia Khateeb) to return to India. His serious expressions and dialogues in intense scenes are commendable. This role is different for John as he relies on acting rather than action.
Sadia Khateeb, who plays Ujma, also delivers a good performance. The casting is well done, as Sadia resembles the real-life character of Ujma. Other actors like Kumud Mishra, Revathi, and Sharib Hashmi justify their roles.
The courtroom scenes in the film are impactful, especially when Sadia’s character receives justice, creating a satisfying emotional experience.

The film “The Diplomat” is directed by Shivam Nair, The director knows how to play with emotions, and the execution is good. Director Shivam Nair pays attention to every department, making the film successful in writing, dialogue, acting, and direction.
Although the film avoids showing the darker side of Pakistan, it emphasises that laws cannot be broken there: “Oh WoW!! That’s amazing and surprising!!. The film stays close to reality without taking cinematic liberties, avoiding loud dialogues and extreme patriotism, which keeps it real.
The film also highlights the challenges faced by diplomats, such as the pressure of working in a place like Pakistan. It subtly critiques and appreciates politics.
The background music enhances the scenes, making them more impactful.
