Critical Analysis of the Gujarati Movie “Kale Lagan Che?!”

The Plot:

“Kale Lagan Che?!” is a refreshing Gujarati comedy-thriller that follows the journey of Ayush (Parikshit Tamaliya), an ordinary guy who, on his way to Diu, encounters Ishika (Puja Joshi), an armed and mysterious young woman in need of a lift. As Ayush’s curiosity leads him to help her, the two begin on a road trip filled with surprising twists and hilarious mishaps. The film spins into a series of unexpected scenarios, pulling Ayush and Ishika into a plot that challenges their plans and sparks a quirky bond between them.

I would highly appreciate the makers of the movie for taking such a concept of the movie. Also, Parikshit’s experimentation with the comedy genre.

The Storyline:

The storyline is layered with mystery, comedy, and a hint of suspense, successfully blending these elements to create an engaging narrative. Humayun Makrani, the writer and director, skillfully weaves humour into the tension, keeping the audience entertained while building up the mystery surrounding Ishika’s character. The plot twist keeps the momentum alive, making this film enjoyable to watch for those who love a good laugh paired with mystery. The writer has also taken care to keep the dialogues light and humorous, adding to the overall fun experience.

The makers have given a hint of the second part of this movie where we might again see the engagement of these two love birds with the goons.

The Stellar Performance:

Parikshit Tamaliya shines as Ayush, effortlessly embodying the innocent, well-meaning character. I had a candid talk with him a few days back and during our conversation, he said that “he likes and loves to experiment, this is his first try to do comedy on the screen. He will gracefully accept the verdict of his fans and audience whether they accept him acting in comedy or not and depending on the views and reviews, he will work on himself and will improve by doing movies comedy genre.”  He also said that “he will not stop experimenting with more and more different roles as he does not want to portray himself as a monotonous actor doing similar types of movies and acting.”

With Parikshit Tamaliya and Puja Joshi

In this movie, his comedic timing is spot-on, and he has proved himself that he is a versatile actor.  His chemistry with Puja Joshi as Ishika is one of the film’s highlights.

He was very impressive in “Hu Ane Tu” movie with Siddharth Randeria and also was excellent in his lead role in the “Interview” movie.

Puja Joshi’s portrayal of Ishika is both intense and humorous, balancing the role’s mystery with moments of vulnerability and wit. Puja has done some action scenes also and she looks great in those scenes as well. Would like to see her in action movies more than often.

Supporting actors, including Anurag Prapanna and Dipika Raval, add depth to the storyline, with Prapanna bringing a memorable screen presence that complements the lead pair.

The Debut Direction:

Humayun Makrani has done a commendable job directing “Kale Lagan Che?!”, capturing the essence of a road trip movie with a unique Gujarati twist. His ability to blend comedy and mystery in a single narrative stands out, showcasing his versatile approach to storytelling. Makrani’s direction ensures that each scene serves a purpose, building up suspense without letting it overtake the humour. His attention to detail in maintaining a lighthearted tone even during tense moments is impressive.

Most of the movie’s shooting is outdoors and hence few scenes look awesome.

The Cinematography:

The cinematography captures the scenic landscapes beautifully, making the road journey visually appealing. The camera work is smooth and immersive, effectively highlighting the changing emotions between Ayush and Ishika.

The film’s cinematographer has given a colourful, vibrant touch to each frame, emphasizing the adventurous theme while also paying close attention to expressions and close-ups, especially during the comedic scenes and anxious and nervous scenes.

The Screenplay:

The screenplay is tight and fast-paced, with smooth transitions that maintain audience engagement throughout. The film doesn’t waste time on unnecessary filler scenes, allowing the main plot to unfold in a crisp, digestible manner. However, certain parts of the screenplay could have delved a bit deeper into Ishika’s and Ayush’s backstory to add more layers to her character. The run time of the movie is 114 minutes means around 1 hour and 54 minutes which is okay timing for this type of movie.

The Positive Points:

The Negative Points:

The Overall Verdict:

“Kale Lagan Che?!” is a delightful addition to Gujarati cinema, offering a perfect mix of comedy and suspense that will appeal to a wide audience. With strong performances, visually appealing cinematography, and a plot that’s equal parts fun and mysterious. While it may benefit from more character depth, it’s a must-watch for fans of road-trip comedies and those looking for a unique story filled with humour and twists. This movie has the potential to be a crowd-pleaser, and it’s a promising showcase of Humayun Makrani’s directorial talent.
