Critical Analysis of the Gujarati Movie “Faati Ne?”
The Plot
The movie “Faati Ne?” revolves around two bumbling police officers who are suspended from their jobs due to their incompetence. To prove their worth and save their careers, they are assigned an unusual task: spend an entire night in a haunted mansion and report back the next morning. What follows is a rollercoaster of laughter, scares, and unexpected twists as the duo navigates the eerie mansion while trying to keep their sanity intact.
The storyline is simple yet effective. The story revolves around two main characters of the movie that is Paramlal and Padamlal played by Hitu Kanodiya and Smit Pandya respectively.
Paramlal has lost his wife and now needs custody of his beloved daughter and for that he needs a secure job so the court can provide him the custody of his daughter. However, he and his friend Padamlal both have been suspended from their jobs.
Their reporting officer Matthew gives a deal to these two suspended officers which is very unusual “spend an entire night in a haunted mansion and report back the next morning” if they want their jobs back.
Paramlal wants his job back and hence he accepts this deal while Padamlal, (Smit Pandya) just follows his friend Paramlal.
The haunted mansion serves as the perfect backdrop for the chaos that ensues, with each room holding a new surprise—some funny, some frightening. The narrative strikes a balance between humor and suspense, making it an entertaining watch for fans of both genres.
The Script
This is one of the most lovable script I have come across in Gujarati movies in Horror, comedy genre. The dialogues and punch lines are humorous especially by Baba Bhootmarina “Sa re gama pada ni sa”. There are so many comedy punches and in the movie which keeps the audience interested. The script also has many horror sequences which make the audience scare. Too good.
The use of few words in gujarati languages such “lakhota, haltino tha, gelphadinao, tanpao, lalvao”, etc. brings a lot of humour when spoken in Australian accent, by Australians
The Acting
The two lead actors Hitu Kanodiya and Smit Pandya deliver standout performances. Hitu Kanodiya’s role is of a serious man while Smit Pandya lifts the entire movie on his shoulders with his impeccable comic timing and humour. Smit Pandya has been exceptional in this movie.
The character of Baba Bhootmarina has been played by Hemin Trivedi, one of the most natural comedians in Gujarati film industry. His eyes shown in the movie are very unusual and actually speaking he was not able to see anything during the shooting. He was guided by his director and colleagues from the back to move around, his performance is unreal, truly unreal.
Akash Zala has played the role of a ghost (jhand), which is not so scary but he has been excellent.
The Direction
The direction of Faisal Hasmi has been of top notch and he has delivered the product of an excellent quality. The most important things in any horror movie is the camera angles, and lighting, to create the sense of scare in the audience, Faisal Hasmi has been able to achieve it.
I would highly praise his direction of this horror comedy movie, he has been perfect in putting the camera angle and lighting.
He deserves praise for successfully blending comedy and horror, a combination that is not easy to pull off. Faisal Hasmi’s ability to create tension while keeping the humor alive is noteworthy. However, there are a few scenes where the transition between comedy and horror feels abrupt, which could have been handled more smoothly.
The Background Music
The background music of any horror film is one of the key factors for the success of the movie. The music brings in more scary and horror in the auditorium and creates more impact on the audience. The BGM of this movie is excellent and deserves an applause.
The Final Verdict
“Faati Ne?” is a delightful blend of comedy and horror that offers plenty of laughs and a few scares along the way. While it may not break new ground in terms of storytelling, it succeeds in delivering a fun and entertaining experience. The strong performances by the lead actors, coupled with impressive background music and cinematography, make it a worthwhile watch. If you’re in the mood for a lighthearted film with a spooky twist, this Gujarati comedy-horror movie “Faati Ne?” is a great choice..
