Former India head coach Ravi Shastri believes that the captains and coaches of Team India should have a say in the team selection.
Shastri remarked in an interview with Star Sports, “It is critical, in my opinion, that the captain and coach have a role in team selection. Both should have an official say in the future, in my opinion. Especially if the coach has adequate experience, as I did and as Rahul does now. It should take place in a meeting with the captain present, rather than over the phone or outside so that he can observe the selectors’ mindsets. What occurs in the meeting when the convenor is present and all of the big boys are present — he should be present.”
Shastri also stated that Team India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma should begin planning for the World Cup and seek out young bowlers, particularly pacers.
“, he explained “That will be the most difficult task. In order to play in ’23, we need to find 5 good bowlers. Because it’s in India, it’ll be simpler because there will be spin. When you travel abroad, it becomes more difficult. For the next year or year and a half, I don’t see an issue, but if you start traveling internationally again, you’ll have to really start looking and grooming.”
