Virat Kohli came out to bat for the second game in a row with a really aggressive attitude. He charged out again and was caught at cover for a 6-ball 11 after lofting David Willey over mid-wicket for four and straight back over his head for six. It came after his ejection from Birmingham, when he hit the third ball he faced, swinging across the line to Richard Gleeson.
During India’s slump in Birmingham, which saw them fall from 61/1 at the start of the PowerPlay to 89/5 a few overs later, Kohli was at the center of the situation. Kohli was dismissed here in Nottingham as part of a challenging PowerPlay that saw the team reduced to 31/3 in just five overs.
In contrast to his more conservative T20 batting technique, Kohli’s high-risk strategy, according to Rohit Sharma, was in accordance with the team’s new batting strategy. Rohit affirmed that Kohli’s decision to be dismissed early both times was a fair trade-off for the new batting strategy and that Kohli’s goal was both personal and team-based.

Every player on the team must adopt the same mentality in order for us to play the way we do; otherwise, you know, it won’t happen for you “At the Trent Bridge news conference following the game on Sunday, Rohit remarked (July 10). “And every batter on this team is prepared to take that additional risk and go see what else they can do with the bat. You know, it’s crucial to learn about oneself, to try various things, because if you don’t, you’ll never be able to know. Therefore, I believe that is something we have been attempting to do for a while.
“I also mentioned at the beginning of the press conference that it might merely work some days and might not work other days. However, we shouldn’t be reluctant to go and take that additional risk. That is how we will grow together as a team and how we will learn new things as a team. Therefore, it is everyone’s cognitive process, and everyone feels very at ease with that concept. So yes, the team is willing to work on that path.”
As India prepares for the next World Cup, which will begin in a little over three months, Kohli must learn a new role while experiencing a protracted period of poor play. His selection in the team was even questioned by Kapil Dev recently, who urged selectors to play in-form players and “not just go by reputation”
Rohit defended Kohli, calling the accusations “outside noise” and arguing that the player’s ability was more significant than his or her performance. “We don’t listen to outside noise, so it isn’t at all tough for us. Furthermore, I have no idea who these experts are or why they are referred to as experts. That baffles me “said Rohit.
“They are observing from the outside and are unaware of what is occurring within the team. We have a thought process, we form the team, we argue and talk about it, and we consider it carefully. The players [we select] receive support and opportunities. The general public is unaware of it. Therefore, what is happening within our team is more significant to me.
“If you’re talking about shape, everyone’s form fluctuates. The player’s quality remains good. When such remarks are made, we should constantly be aware of them. We support that quality. Both XYZ and I have experienced this. Nothing is novel. When a player performs well over an extended period of time but then has a few poor series, it is important to remember his contribution. Some people might need some time to fully grasp it. However, we who work there and manage the staff is aware of its significance. I’ll say to that outside, well, you have every right to talk about it, but it doesn’t really matter to us.”
With two wins to start, India has already secured their fourth consecutive T20I series victory over England despite losing the series’ final T20I in Nottingham. The Indian skipper admitted that while the series victory was a boost to confidence, the biggest learning was how easily the new ideology was adopted by everyone involved.
“The approach of each and every player in this series has been the major takeaway. How they have savored the midst of the game, embracing the challenge, the opponent, and the added risk. The major lesson from all the players, in my opinion, is that we’re attempting to change the mindset “said Rohit.
“They are prepared to take that risk and are ready to do that. The main takeaway is that when I go and talk to particular people or players, I always get the same kind of response. Results will undoubtedly fluctuate while doing that. We’re trying to see the bigger picture, therefore we’ll make some mistakes to get there. I’m pretty much alright with it as a captain. In all honesty, it’s difficult to get here and defeat England in a series. It presented us with several difficulties. Winning always boosts your confidence, and we can attempt to use that confidence to go forward and look for ways to get better across the board.”
