Indian tennis prodigy Sania Mirza and her Croatian partner Mate Pavic advanced to the Wimbledon 2022 mixed doubles quarterfinals on Sunday after winning by walkover (July 3).
Ivan Dodig and Latisha Chan were scheduled to face Sania and Pavic, one-half of the Tokyo 2020 men’s doubles champions, in the pre-quarterfinals. The Australian-Canadian team of John Peers and Gabriela Dabrowski or the Brazilian team of Bruno Soares and Beatriz Haddad Maia will now be their opponents in the quarterfinals.
The Indian and her Croatian pair had defeated Georgia’s Natela Dzalamidze and Spain’s David Vega Hernandez 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(3) in the opening round.
The 35-year-old tennis pro had earlier dropped the women’s singles opening round match.
Sania will not return to Wimbledon after this; she has stated that 2022 will be her final year competing as a professional tennis player.
