Emraan Hashmi posted a photo on Instagram with Selfiee co-star and OG Khiladi, Akshay Kumar, confirming a dance-off.
Some films and their soundtracks become timeless classics that are remembered for generations. They have a fanbase that spans generations, and new films rely on the success of such songs to generate buzz. It’s no surprise that recreating fans’ favorite songs pays off, as people get nostalgic listening to the tunes of such timeless songs. People were bound to get excited when Emraan Hashmi teased fans about the revival of Mai Khiladi Tu Anari.
The post is a teaser for the song from his upcoming film Selfiee, which stars Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi in the lead roles.
“28 years after the original. The original Khiladi with the new Anari. This stare-down resulted in a dance-off. And what a dance-off it was. (Haven’t stopped icing my feet since) #selfiee”, Emraan referred to Akshay as the original Khiladi and himself as the new Anari. The 1994 film Mai Khiladi Tu Anari starred Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Shilpa Shetty, and Raageshwari and was one of the top five highest-grossing films of the year. It produced hit songs such as the title track and Chura Ke Dil Mera, starring Shilpa and Akshay Kumar.
The upcoming film is a remake of the 2019 Malayalam comedy-drama Driving Licence, which was a box office success. Raj Mehta, known for films such as Good News, will direct the project. This is his second project following the multi-starrer JugJugg Jeeyo.
Dharma Productions, which is led by Karan Johar, has retweeted Emraan’s tweet about the upcoming song.
The film is scheduled to hit theatres later this year.
