Sergio Aguero, the striker for Argentina and FC Barcelona, has announced his retirement from football owing to a heart problem. The Argentine is most known for his outstanding achievements as a striker for Manchester City. He was instrumental in Manchester City’s first-ever Premier League victory. In 2021, he and Argentina won the Copa America.
He later went on to win five Premier League titles with Manchester City. With 260 goals in 390 games, he is the club’s all-time leading scorer. In the previous summer transfer window, Aguero chose to leave City for FC Barcelona.
In a press conference with Barcelona president Joan Laporta, Aguero confirmed his retirement. A tearful Aguero said: “This press conference is to inform you that I have decided to retire from professional football. It’s a terrible time right now. The decision I made for my health; the issue I had a month and a half ago.”
