Swiss State Secretary for Economic Affairs Helene Budliger Artieda officially opened the plant, highlighting the 75-year partnership between India and Switzerland. She commended SIG for introducing the best Swiss technical practices to India’s rapidly expanding food and beverage sector.

India is a major producer of fruit juices and has the world’s largest milk market. However, the cold chain infrastructure is still lacking, and less than 10% of milk is being bottled. Aseptic cartons are therefore the best option because they enable long-term storage without the need for refrigeration or preservatives.
With an annual production capacity of up to 4 billion aseptic cartons, SIG’s new plant in Ahmedabad will be crucial to the country’s dairy and beverage sector. Over 300 local employees will be created by the plant, which will also increase domestic production and lessen reliance on imports.
