Sonu’s Heroics Propel Gujarat Giants to Third Consecutive Victory
Newzdaddy Sports Updates
In a nail-biting showdown on Tuesday at the EKA Arena by TransStadia, Sonu Jaglan once again emerged as the star player, leading the Gujarat Giants to a spectacular 39-37 victory over U Mumba. This marked the Giants’ third successive win, making the triumph even sweeter as it coincided with Fazel Atrachali’s 100th game as captain.
The initial moments of the game saw both teams exchanging the lead, with U Mumba taking a 7-5 advantage in the 5th minute thanks to a two-point raid from Guman Singh. Sensing the need for a turnaround, the Giants introduced their trump card, Sonu Jaglan, in the 7th minute. Although he faced initial challenges, Rakesh HS’s crucial bonus point and a running hand touch on Rinku Singh helped the Giants reclaim a slender lead at 10-9.
Despite a superb SUPER TACKLE from Mahender Singh giving U Mumba a 12-10 lead around the 11th minute, the tide turned when Fazel Atrachali showcased two moments of brilliance. Going on a raid, he outwitted his rival captain Surinder Singh and followed it up with a crucial SUPER TACKLE, bringing the Giants back into the game at 16-18 just before halftime.
The second half began with a bang for the Giants as Sonu’s first raid point drew them level. Sonu then exhibited remarkable prowess, securing two crucial points by eliminating Rinku Singh and Mahender. U Mumba found themselves down to just one player on the mat, and in the next raid, the Giants inflicted an ALL-OUT, taking a 23-19 lead. Sonu’s stellar raiding, coupled with a solid defence, propelled the Giants to a commanding 30-22 lead at the 30-minute mark.
Despite Guman’s valiant efforts for U Mumba, scoring off three successive attempts, and quick raids from Iranian all-rounder Amirmohammad Zafardanesh and Pranay Rane bringing the score to 30-34, the game took a dramatic turn. Zafardanesh executed an unexpected move with less than two minutes left, surpassing Fazel and Manuj to inflict an ALL-OUT, levelling the playing field.
However, in the final minute, it was Sonu who stole the spotlight, producing a breathtaking three-point SUPER RAID. This not only secured the Giants’ third successive win but also marked Sonu’s third consecutive SUPER 10.
