The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially announced the schedule for the much-anticipated and controvertial Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament, known for its competitive edge and thrilling cricket, will kick off on 19 February 2025, with the final slated for 9 March 2025.
The Champions Trophy was last played in England which was won by Pakistan in 2017. The champions trophy is played every 3 years. Due to some reasons, this trophy is delayed and is now been played in 2025. The Champions trophy 2025 will be hosted by Pakistan, barring all Indian matches.
The tournament will finally be played in a hybrid model as Indian govermnent did now allow Team India to travel to Pakistan due to security reasons. All the matches of Team India will be played at a neutral venue in Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.
Indian fans can now book their tickets for Dubai to watch their favorite team.
The much talked and hyped match between India and Pakistan will also be played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, this is petty for Pakistan as being the host nation have to play their match in other nation.
Teams and Groups
The Champions Trophy will feature two groups, each comprising four teams:
- Group A: Pakistan (hosts), India, New Zealand, and Bangladesh.
- Group B: Australia, Afghanistan, England, and South Africa.
These teams earned their spots by finishing in the top eight positions during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
Opening Match and Final
The opening match between the so called host nation Pakistan and New Zealand will be played in Karachi. The cricket fans across the globe will be able to watch the ICC champions Trophy after a long time. The final, venue of the match is still not clear as if India Qualifies for the Final then the match will not be hosted by so called host Pakistan, it will be played in Dubai, poor Pakistan. Why Sri Lanka and West Indies are Not the Part of ICC Champions Trophy 2025?
Both Sri Lanka and West Indies are past world champions of ICC World Cup. However, both these world champions are out of this Champions Trophy 2025. Both these teams have great history of cricket nationally and internationall, however failed to get their spot this time. The reason behind is that ICC Champions trophy is being played by 8 teams only and top 8 teams will can only qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy.
- Sri Lanka: The ICC world Cup 2023 was played in India and Sri Lanka finished 9th in the ODI World Cup 2023, hence did not qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
- West Indies: It was a great shock to the fans of West Indies as the didn’t even qualify for the 2023 ODI World Cup and hence automatically were out of the Champions Trophy 2025.

Since 2009, the ICC Champions Trophy has featured 8 teams. In the group stage, each team plays three matches. The top two teams from each group then advance to the semi-finals. The winners of the semi-finals meet in the final to compete for the prestigious white winner’s jacket.
