This World Sight Day, Standard Chartered Bank is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its ‘Seeing is Believing’ program, an initiative dedicated to eradicating avoidable blindness. Since its launch in 2003 in India, the program has reached over 15 million people with a further commitment to take it to 18 million over the next 3 years through strategic collaborations and initiatives.
For the past 20 years, the ‘Seeing is Believing’ program has helped many people. It has done more than 3.5 million eye surgeries, given out over 600,000 glasses, and helped people talk to doctors about their eyes over the internet more than 11,000 times.
The program also helps teach people how to take care of their eyes better. They have trained over 100,000 people in India to help with eye problems.
In India, they’ve made sure there are lots of places where people can go to get help with their eyes. These are called vision centers, and they have more than 450 of them in 22 different places. Half of these are run by women. In October, they plan to open 31 more vision centers in different parts of India.

The ‘Seeing is Believing’ program is also trying to make sure more women get the chance to lead and work in eye care. They are telling more people about how to take care of their eyes and training more people to be eye care experts.
People who work with the program say it’s been very important. They’ve helped people in many different parts of India and made sure more people can get good eye care. They want to keep doing this work and make sure everyone can see better.
