RRU concludes 1st National Moot Court Competition
Gandhinagar, Gujarat, August 25, 2023 – The School of National Security and Law at RRU successfully wrapped up the much-anticipated National Moot Court Competition with a focus on “Economic & Financial Security of India.” The event took place from August 23rd to 25th, 2023, and witnessed the participation of 41 teams, totaling over 120 students from various institutions across India. These students showcased their legal expertise and advocacy skills with passion and dedication.
The National Moot Court Competition served as a platform for law students to demonstrate their legal knowledge and courtroom abilities. They engaged in mock court proceedings, presenting arguments and analyzing complex legal issues. Among the 120 participants, more than 50% were women, highlighting the increasing representation of women in the legal field. This inclusive representation is in line with the School of National Security and Law’s commitment to promoting gender diversity in the legal profession.
Esteemed judges and legal professionals evaluated participants based on their legal understanding, presentation skills, and ability to present persuasive arguments. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Hon’ble Ms. Justice Sonia Gokani, Former Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court. Her presence inspired participants, encouraging them to pursue excellence in the legal field. She emphasized the importance of combining a scientific approach with legal understanding, drawing parallels to her own journey from science to law.
The three-day event included Preliminary rounds on the first day, followed by Octa-finals, Quarterfinals, and Semi-finals on the second day. The climax was the eagerly awaited final round on the third day, held in the moot court auditorium.
The winners were recognized with cash prizes:
- Winner: Rs. 51,000/-
- Runner-up: Rs. 31,000/-
- Best Speaker, Researcher, and Best Memorial: Rs. 10,000 each.
The valedictory ceremony welcomed esteemed guests, including Honourable Mr. Justice B. N Karia, former Judge of the Gujarat High Court, and Shri. Ashwani Bhatia, Whole-time member of SEBI. They highlighted the significance of financial and economic security, urging Indian youth to invest in the country’s growth story.
After three days of intense competition, the triumphant team from SVKM’s Pravin Gandhi College of Law secured the championship trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 51,000. The Runner-up trophy and Rs. 31,000 went to the team representing Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai. The titles of Best Speaker, Researcher, and Best Memorial were earned by Ms. Blaisy Babby Peter (Christ University, Bangalore), Ms. Shreya Madaan (Symbiosis Law School, Pune), and Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai, respectively, each receiving a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.
The 1st RRU National Moot Court Competition came to a close with a Vote of Thanks by Mr. Gantav Gupta, Assistant Professor and Faculty Convenor of the Moot Court Committee. The event not only showcased legal talent but also highlighted the importance of economic and financial security in India’s legal landscape.
