Best Wishes to Mahendra Singh Dhoni on his 41st Birthday
Today, July 7, Mahendra Singh Dhoni turned 41. One of the most well-liked cricketers India has ever seen, the former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman is immortalized in history for a number of memorable events. During his playing days, MS Dhoni was initially a powerful batsman before evolving into one of cricket’s all-time greatest captains. Here are some of the most memorable experiences the cricketer from Ranchi provided us over the years:
2007 World T20 Final
The starting point! Under the leadership of rookie captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Indian team consisted primarily of young players and prospective players. In stark contrast to expectations, India advanced to the final, where they faced Pakistan, a team they had previously defeated in the Super 6 stage. When Mahi used his trump card and substituted Joginder Sharma in the penultimate over, Pakistan, led by Misbah-Ul-Haq, was edging closer to winning the first trophy. What followed was legendary: Misbah struck a scoop shot over short fine leg off Joginder Sharma, and Sreesanth took the catch. The World T20I was won by India by 5 runs. One of the most famous broadcast lines ever was from Ravi Shastri’s commentary: “In the air… Sreesanth… takes it, India win.” These are unbelievable scenes.
At the time of the 2008 Commonwealth Bank Series, Australia was the reigning world champion, and India had failed to advance past the group stage in the 2007 World Cup. Australia was the clear favourite, but Sri Lanka, who finished in second place, was also looking good. India, led by Mahi, had other ideas. During his maiden Australian tour as captain, India stunned Australia and went on to win the Commonwealth Bank Series.
Test side with the highest-ranking
On December 6, 2009, India attained the highest position ever in the ICC Test rankings. At the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, India defeated Sri Lanka by an innings margin. The M.S. Dhoni-led team completed the feat by winning their fourth straight series while playing in top form.
2011 World Cup
In what will likely go down in cricket history as Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s most famous moment, the Dhoni-led team defeated Sri Lanka to win the World Cup for the first time in 28 years. India lost both of its openers at 31 while chasing 275. India achieved a memorable performance because to the Gautam Gambhir-MS Dhoni show, which was carried out by Gambhir’s 97 and Dhoni’s unbroken 91. It was a tall ask for Dhoni to elevate himself above an effective Yuvraj Singh, and he turned in one of his finest innings ever. When India required 4 off of 11 balls, Dhoni hit Nuwan Kulasekara for a six at long on, and millions of Indian fans celebrated as India won the World Cup. The fans will always remember Ravi Shastri’s catchphrase, “Dhoni finishes off in style. A stunning blow to the crowd. In India’s first World Cup victory in 28 years. The celebration began in the locker room, where the Indian captain was absolutely outstanding on the finals night.
ICC Champions Trophy 2013
After a disastrous tour of England in 2011, India faced far greater difficulties in Australia in 2011–12. As they concluded the year with a series loss to Pakistan at home, the Indian team’s form wasn’t very encouraging in 2012. Things were looking bleak for the Indian team going into the Champions Trophy. But Mahi’s brilliant mind had other ideas. He came up with one of cricket’s most famous opening combinations in Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, giving them a new beginning, reviving their careers, and elevating them to the top of the Modern Era. Once again, India played England in the championship game. Mahi understood the game and the circumstances brilliantly, and India won by 5 runs because to Ishant Sharma’s two wickets in the 18th over and Ashwin’s superb defense of 15 runs in the last over. Dhoni became the first skipper in cricket history to win every ICC trophy with this triumph.
