According to BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, the 2022 Ranji Trophy season will be split into two halves. The league stage matches will take place in the first phase, followed by the elimination stage matches in the second phase.

The Ranji Trophy season was supposed to begin on January 13, however, the BCCI postponed the domestic cricket event due to fears of a third wave caused by the Omicron form of COVID-19.

The knockout stage of the tournament, according to Jay Shah, will conclude in June of this year. “My staff is working hard to minimize any health risks posed by the pandemic while also delivering a highly competitive red-ball cricket match.” The Ranji Trophy is our most prestigious domestic competition, and it has provided Indian cricket with many opportunities.

Some players and staff members from Mumbai and Bengal Ranji camps tested positive for Covid-19 just days before the event. Shivam Dube, Mumbai’s all-rounder, and the team’s video analyst both tested positive for Covid-19.

Since the 2019-20 season, the Ranji Trophy has not been played. The cricket season in India was called off due to Covid-19.
