In a heartwarming achievement, the documentary “To Kill A Tiger” has been nominated for the Best Documentary Feature at the upcoming 2024 Academy Awards. The film, set in a small village in India, captures the emotional journey of a father named Ranjit as he strives to find justice for his 13-year-old daughter, who faced abduction and a horrifying assault by three men.

Directed by Delhi-born filmmaker Nisha Pahuja and produced by Cornelia Principe and David Oppenheim, the Canadian production had its first showing at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2022. The film not only touched hearts but also walked away with the prestigious Amplify Voices Award for Best Canadian Feature Film.

The storyline follows Ranjit’s initial relief as the perpetrators are arrested after he reports the incident to the police. However, this relief is short-lived, as the villagers and local leaders launch a persistent campaign to coerce Ranjit’s family into dropping the charges. “To Kill A Tiger” paints a vivid picture of Ranjit’s unwavering determination in the face of adversity to secure justice for his child.

The documentary joins the ranks of other notable films nominated for the Best Documentary Feature Oscar, including “Bobi Wine: The People’s President,” “The Eternal Memory,” “Four Daughters,” and “20 Days In Mariupol.”

As the 96th annual Academy Awards approach, scheduled for March 10 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, the anticipation grows. The return of Jimmy Kimmel as the host adds to the excitement, marking his fourth time at the helm of this prestigious event.
