One of the most important and popular vocalists in Indian film has ever been the versatile singer Asha Bhosle. Asha Tai, whose career lasted more than 70 years, gave us a number of timeless classics that helped to immortalize her and her contribution to Indian film. The artist has given us a variety of songs to choose from, including ghazals, disco tunes, and some enduringly seductive pieces. Now, let’s listen to some of Asha’s classic tunes as she gets ready
Asha Tai has given us several iconic hits throughout the course of her nearly 70-year career, immortalizing her and her contribution to Indian film.
She sang more songs than most playback singers in Hindi Films in the 1950s. The majority of these were in B- or C-rated, low-budget movies. With the songs she performed for the movies Parineeta (1953), Boot Polish (1954), C.I.D (1956), and Naya Daur, she first became well-known (1957).
She found her first success in B.R. Chopra’s Naya Daur. She became well-known for the duets she performed in the movie. This was the first time she had ever performed all the songs for a movie’s lead actress. Chopra then contacted her to work on some of his later films, including Gumrah, Waqt, Admi Aur Insaan, and Dhund. Her partnership with Nayyar was successful as well. Now that she had established her position, Sachin Dev Burman and Ravi were willing to support her.
She achieved public popularity when she sang duets from one of the music directors R.D Burman in 1966 for the movie Teesri Manzil. According to reports, Asha Ji believed she wouldn’t be able to sing this Westernized song when she first heard the dance number “Aaja Aaja.” She saw it as a challenge and spent about ten days practicing. In addition to “Aaja Aaja,” she also sang songs like “O Haseena Zulfonwali” and “O Mere Sona Re,” which went on to become popular songs and garner acclaim. The partnership between Asha Ji and R.D. Burmans produced a number of successful songs as well as a marriage.
During the 1960s and 1970s, she also provided Helen’s voice, as a dancer and actor in Hindi films. “Piya Tu Ab To Aaja” (Caravan) and “Yeh Mera Dil” (Don), among others, are a couple of other well-known songs.
She was respected for her skills and adaptability by the 1980s, although she was also occasionally characterized as a “cabaret singer” and a pop crooner. She once more experimented and tried singing numerous ghazals for the Rekha-starring film Umrao Jaan in 1981, including “Dil Cheez Kya Hai,” “In Aankhon Ki Masti Ke,” “Yeh Kya Jagah Hai Doston,” and “Justuju Jiski Thi,” among others.
For the ghazals, she received her first National Film Award. A few years later, she received National Award for the song “Mera Kuchh Saamaan” from Ijaazat (1987). (1987).
In 1995’s Rangeela, she performed a song for Urmila Matondkar, an actor. She performs the songs “Tanha Tanha” and “Rangeela Re.” Throughout the 2000s, several of Asha Ji’s songs reached the top of the charts, including “Radha Kaise Na Jale” from Lagaan (2001), “Kambakht Ishq” from Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya (2001), “Yeh Lamha” from Filhaal (2002), and “Lucky Lips” from Lucky (2005).
The Very Best of Asha Bhosle, The Queen of Bollywood is a compilation of album tracks Asha Ji recorded for albums and Hindi language movies published between 1966 and 2003. It was released in October 2004.
2012 saw her judge Sur Kshetra as well. She made her acting debut in the 2013 movie Mai as the title character at the age of 79. She portrayed a 65-year-old mother who has Alzheimer’s disease and is abandoned by her children in this movie. In May 2020, Asha Ji also debuted her YouTube channel, which is called Asha Bhosle Official.
